Auction 418 – A highlight of WMF 2025

Künker is once again presenting a numismatic highlight this year: Auction 418, an impressive auction featuring an exquisite selection of coins, medals and decorations from different eras and regions of the world. Whether rare antique coins, historical coinage or modern collector’s items – Auction 418 offers something for every taste and every budget.

The medals come from several complementary collections. One of them belonged to a German manufacturer and history enthusiast who is also responsible for a collection of coins from the Thirty Years’ War.

A particular highlight is a batch of Renaissance medals from the Ore Mountains with biblical themes. You can find out what they were minted for in the specialist article ‘Joachimsthal and the Reformation’.

Please also note the Prussian medals on offer: Among them is a highly rare gold medal for the 1871 victory against France, the gold weight of which corresponds to a whole 120 ducats (lot number 158). Only 25 examples were produced, for the 22 generals involved in the war, who are also named on the medal. The three remaining examples were intended for War Minister Albrecht von Roon, Chancellor Otto von Bismarck and the Emperor himself.

Another jewel of the auction is the magnificent medal from 1521, which Hans Krafft produced on behalf of the city of Nuremberg as an official gift for the planned visit of Emperor Charles V. The medal was designed by none other than the Emperor himself. The design was by none other than Albrecht Dürer! Only thirteen copies are known to exist today, four of which are in private hands. You can find more background information on this rarity in the specialist article ‘An official gift from the city of Nuremberg’.

A detailed overview of the lots on offer as well as additional information can be found in the online catalogue and in the preliminary report for Auction 418.

We cordially invite you to discover the diversity and quality of the collection online.
